Ventolin Inhaler

Ventolin inhaler is used to treat breathing problems caused by asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), or other airway conditions. Such problems can manifest as chest tightness, shortness of breath, and wheezing. Ventolin relaxes the muscles of the airway walls to facilitate breathing. This medication can also be used to prevent some breathing difficulties, for example, those associated with allergies, or asthma attacks when exerting effort. Ventolin Inhalator sprays a dose of powder into the oral cavity. Shake it well before use, and inhale as you press down on the inhaler so that the powder reaches the lungs directly. After inhalation, hold your breath for at least 10 to avoid exhaling the medication. If you need a second administration, wait half a minute.

Warnings

It is important to keep a Ventolin inhaler on hand at all times. Get your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine completely. Keep using all of your other medications as prescribed by your doctor.

Talk with your doctor if any of your asthma medications do not seem to work as well in treating or preventing attacks. If it seems like you need to use more of any of your medications in 24 hours, talk with your doctor. An increased need for medication could be an early sign of a serious asthma attack.

Only use a Ventolin inhaler as prescribed by your physician. An overdose of albuterol can be fatal. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

Extreme heat can cause the Ventolin HFA canister to burst. Do not store your inhaler in your car on hot days. Do not throw an empty canister into an open flame.

Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.
